You think calorie cycling rocks your world?
Check out some of these other facts:
1. "Fat Free Foods" Usually Aren’t Fat Free At All!
If you ever look at a product that claims to be 99% (or any %) fat free – look at the nutritional label.
You’ll often find that a product has a certain amount of calories – and that a huge number of them are from fat.
Next time you see a container of something that says it's 97% far free, turn the container over. You'll likely find something like the total calories of serving is 150, where the calories from fat are 75. Now - is this really 97% fat free? NO.
This is how they get away with it: Companies can claim that something is X% fat free based off of the VOLUME of a food. So if there's 75 grams worth of fat... but the total package is 2500 grams of WEIGHT... they're allowed to say that it's 97% fat free, even when it's NOT!
Among others, this technique is used to sell 2% milk as 98% fat free.
2. This Is One Way That They'll Bamboozle You...
So you might be wondering, how do they distort the weight in those fat free products so that they can claim them as fat free?
Easy.
If a food has a cup of oil in it... that's naturally all fat.
Since there's such a "low-fat craze"... companies will literally just POUR WATER ON TOP OF THE OIL.
You'll be eating literally the same exact product - but since "Fat Free" claims are based on weight and NOT fat content - companies are allowed to call it "X% Fat Free".
Crazy, isn't it!? You're still eating the same exact amount of fat!
3. Here's Another Way They Can Get You...
This one started in the 1970's. There were tons of fattening graham crackers, cookies, etc... but then the low-fat craze began!
Companies wanted to appeal to the masses, so they pulled a fast one:
Let's say a graham cracker had 100 grams, 50 of them being from fat.
Obviously "50% fat" doesn't sound very good to a diet conscious customer... so here's what happened:
Companies would literally ADD 100 MORE GRAMS OF SUGAR to the product... because this way, they could claim, "Now With 50% Less Fat!"
They still do this all the time!!!
4. Those "Nonfat" Oils Or Non-Stick Cooking Sprays... Are Actually LOADED With Fat And Calories!
This one's going to hurt, we know.
If you look at a can of nonstick "0 calorie" cooking spray... it'll say right on the can, 0 calories in a serving, 0 grams of fat.
But when you look at the ingredients - the main ingredient will be liquid corn oil!
Now - if you looked at the statistics for liquid corn oil, you would see that it is literally PURE FAT (every single calorie is a calorie of fat). It's not "0" fat at all.
So here's how they get away with it:
Any time there's less than .5 gram of fat in a serving, a company can say that it has NO FAT.
So the companies simply change the serving sizes to miniscule amounts (literally, one serving of this nonstick oil is LESS than a 3 second spray). The average person likely uses 10-20 servings at a clip... and loads on TONS of fat and calories!
(The same rule applies when they say that something has no saturated or trans fats.)
And how can they claim "0 calorie", you ask?
Simple - because the serving amount is so insanely miniscule - the serving size is less than 5 calories, which leads us to the next fun fact:
5. Any Time A Serving Size Is Less Than 5 Calories - It Can Be Called "0 Calorie"!
So all the imitation butter, diet soda, artificial sweeteners, sugar free candies, and sugar free gum - is not 0 calorie at ALL!
Diet soda and sugar free gum is still pretty low calorie... but the imitation butter... absolute, unadulterated, pure fat and calories.
6. How They Trick You With "Energy Bars"!
Anything - ANYTHING - that has one calorie or more per serving can be termed an "energy" food. Even a gallon of ice cream - they can call it "Energy Ice Cream" if they want and be completely legal.
When people say that energy bars are a step below candy bars - they're not kidding!
